CNC loading and unloading

This case is about the CNC machine’s loading and unloading requirements. We provide our client with a one-to-two picking and placing a solution. This solution combines with the ABB’s six-axis robotic arm and feed system. ABB robots can meet customer requirements such as “precise positioning,” “improving production efficiency,” and “saving labor costs.” Realize the automatic loading and unloading, flipping, sequence rotation, and other construction methods for different workpieces such as long shafts, discs, irregular shapes, sheet metal parts, etc.

Challenge

Due to the long processing time of the customer’s CNC materials, it is not economical to have one operator with one machine. The ABB robotic arm replaces the shift operators, extending the 16-hour operation time of the CNC machine to 24 hours. The customer demand includes :

  • Robotic-arm loading and unloading accuracy.

  • Two CNC machines need to be able to handle different workpieces.

Solution

Through the programming of the ABB robotic arm, you can set a variety of feeding and unloading modes. Two CNC machines can handle different workpieces with an automatic feeding tray, significantly improving production efficiency and reducing machine adjustment time. We use ABB six Axis robotic arm (model) and air-jet assembly system to avoid iron filings remaining on the workpiece, affecting the quality of the finished product.
